Jose unfortunately was unable to make pipes for the last few years due a combination of circumstances.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJose Rubio has been making pipes for over 35 years. His goal was always to create superb looking pipes that are also superb smokers. He takes great pride in hand selecting only the best grained blocks. All his pipes have a slightly V shaped interior as he feels this is the best shape for the largest variety of tobacco types.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe is almost fanatical about his stems, made from \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eGrade \"A\" German Hamburg Vulcanite and that all stems be between 4-4.2 millimeters thick (at the button) and he hand sands the edges. His stems are amongst the best I have ever seen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis sandblast always have deep ring grain which he achieves by only using smooth straight grain blocks and a 5 part blasting process that takes him 10-12 hours per pipe. His deep blasting creates a larger surface area that delivers a cooler smoke. He has recently cut back his production from \u003cs\u003e90\u003c\/s\u003e to 50 pipes a year. Jose Rubio's sandblast are among the best there is.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis smooths are rare because what makes a great sandblast does not neccessarily make a great smooth. He looks, to see if he can bring out superb grain in the block that will be stunning when sanded and polished. And sometimes he accepts that it just does not work. With its wide \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eV shaped shank and the slight squaring off the sides of its' gives it a distinctly unique look that heightens the artists' signature. As a dear pipe friend of mine said \" if I can't tell who made it from across the room, it is just another piper\". This one certainly fills that criteria.
