Martelo Apple # 1068

This small Apple shows why Gustavo is known as a great blaster - his knack to bring out the best the wood can give. This is gnarly with some ring grain. It is difficult to get a really good sandblast from a small pipe. One bit of too strong blasting and what on a larger pipe makes a great blast on a small one can create a weak hot spot.

What I think is very good this small Apple has a good size bowl with thick walls. This beautiful Laca ring, sets off the deep black stain with burgundy highlights. I do not actually know what Laca is - as Gustavo calls it . Possibly some kind of Lucite. What is clever to make a saddle stem. It lightens it and if you clench, more comfort.
